For a quintessentially Yorkshire experience, stay at this gorgeous stone cottage located in pretty Gunnerside, deep within the Dales National Park. It boasts wonderful views across Swalesdale and, with scenic walking trails leading straight from the front door, is bound to delight keen walkers. With room for up to four guests and one dog, the accommodation is perfect for a family or a small group of friends wishing to immerse themselves in the countryside.
After admiring the stone exterior then leaving your jackets and muddy boots in the hallway, enter the kitchen/diner which has a lovely farmhouse feel to it, as well as gorgeous views – balcony from here gives you a great place to admire them from. Once you’ve made yourselves a nice cuppa, step into the cosy lounge, a truly delightful space with wooden ceiling beams and ornate fireplace. Sink into the sofas and pop something on TV for some easy relaxation, and if it’s cold, spark up the wood burner for that extra-cosy feeling. In mild weather, the patio at the front of the property is excellent for dining alfresco at the bistro table, absorbing your serene surroundings.
You’ll be 400 metres from a sweet country pub which is excellent for a rewarding pint after long days out exploring. Nearby, you can take your pet for a walk through the pretty Gunnerside Gill valley (2 miles) or hike 6 miles to Buttertubs, curious limestone rock formations that are 20 metres deep – the views from here are spectacular. Richmond (16 miles) is a lovely Yorkshire town where you can enjoy a slap-up meal then treat yourself to a show at its atmospheric Georgian theatre.
