  • 300-year-old terraced cottage situated in the cobbled part of Church Street, Whitby
  • Comfortable and characterful, this home has two bedrooms and a fantastic south-facing patio garden
  • Situated in the heart of bustling Whitby, guests can explore the Yorkshire coastline and hinterland within easy reach

Property code: OC-W1032

Perfect for a group of four, this traditional three-storey house is surrounded by stunning coastal scenery, ensuring a peaceful, relaxing stay. It is the former home of Henry Freeman, a famous coxswain, and its 300-year-old interiors still boast a wealth of original features such as wooden beams, low, sloping ceilings and winder stairs. The seaside resort of Whitby is one of the most popular destinations in Yorkshire, with its delightful shops, pubs, and eateries, which are all within 200 metres of the front door.

Inside, you are welcomed to a cosy open-plan living space. The lounge is located at one end with an exposed brick ornamental fireplace and wooden beams, while the well-equipped kitchen with everything you could need to self-cater during your stay, is on the other. Sink into the comfortable seating and watch a film on the Smart TV while your supper sizzles away. Follow the steep cottage-style stairs to the first floor to find a restful double bedroom and a family shower room. Keep climbing to the top floor and you will arrive in a twin bedroom (not suitable for children). What really sets this property apart from the others on its terraced row is the south-facing patio garden, complete with garden furniture for al fresco dining.

Just 250 metres from the door lies the sandy seafront – the perfect spot to soak up the sun, explore the coastline, and try out exciting activities such as paddleboarding and surfing. The Cinder Track is an ideal route for keen walkers, stretching past Whitby and through the North York Moors National Park all the way to Scarborough. There are lots of places to discover more about the area's past too, with attractions such as the ruins of Whitby Abbey and the Captain Cook Memorial Museum, both within 1 mile.

  • 2 bedrooms – 1 double, 1 twin (no upper door, so not suitable for children)
  • 1 shower room with WC
  • Electric oven, gas hob, dishwasher, microwave, fridge with icebox
  • Welcome pack provided
  • Smart TV
  • Patio garden with furniture
  • On-street parking (scratch card permits provided)
  • Shop and pub 200 metres
  • Steep cottage-style stairs with rope handrails to both floors, not suitable for young children
  • Low, sloping ceilings with reduced head height on the second floor
  • One pet accepted at this property.
  • Arrival: 15:30 onwards
  • Departure: before 10:00
  • 1 dog allowed. Additional charges may apply

Beautifully, peaceful cottage within yards of the bustling centre. Would not hesitate to recommend this to friends and family. This is definitely as good a cottage as we have ever stayed in.

Another lovely long weekend at the cottage for 'Tomorrows Ghosts' music festival. Thanks so much. Hope to be back soon.

A short half term break for Tom and I whilst poor hubby has to work. We've loved cycling the Cinder Track, fossil hunting at Saltwick and good long beach walks. Great to be in the centre of Whitby in a cute little place.

A long weekend break for 'Tomorrows Ghosts' music festival. The cottage is lovely - surprisingly peaceful considering how close it is Church Street during the festival. We will be back.

Wonderful cottage in a great location, will come here again at a shot. The weather was a bonus. Had some great outings to Staithes and on the NYMR.
