Visit the wonderfully preserved 900-year-old castle at the top of the High Street and the nearby Craven Museum and Gallery to discover Skipton’s role in the medieval wool trade. There are peaceful woodland trails just behind the castle and other lovely walks along the towpath of the Leeds Liverpool canal, which runs through the town. Go car free by hopping on the bus to Grassington and take the Settle-Carlisle train for a magnificent scenic journey across the famous Ribblehead Viaduct.
