Cropton Cottages

Cropton is on the edge of the North York Moors National Park and surrounded by moors and forests. Just 5 miles from the market town of Pickering, with all the usual amenities, this is a great location for a self-catering holiday. Within the village is an excellent pub which serves food and is also home to The Great Yorkshire Brewery. This microbrewery produces several award-winning beers including the enticingly named Two Beers and Monkmans Slaughter. Tours of the brewery are available which end, of course, with the opportunity to taste the beer!

Cropton Forest lies on the outskirts of the village and is managed by the Forestry Commission. Waymarked trails are available as is badger watching. Also nearby are Cawthorne Camps, the site of Roman training camps, which offers an easy access path and panoramic views of the forest and moors.

Just a few miles up the road is the village of Rosedale Abbey, well-known for its iron-ore mining heritage and a good selection of pubs with restaurants and tea room. Also close by are the villages of Hutton-le-Hole, one of the most picturesque moorland villages and home to the Ryedale Folk Museum, Lastingham, and Appleton-le-Moors, all of which have great pubs serving traditional Yorkshire fayre.
