Property code: OC-Y027

This attractive cottage in the heart of the North York Moors National Park, surrounded by countryside, is perfect for couples, families or friends looking for a peaceful holiday in a rural retreat. Lealholm is a small village near Glaisdale and Danby on the River Esk crossing point and a great base for exploring the moors, with the coast less than 10 miles away. Whether you enjoy walking or cycling, there is plenty of natural beauty to explore on your doorstep.

This gorgeous cottage is spacious and full of original character features, including exposed wooden ceiling beams in all the downstairs rooms. The decor is colourful and playful, reflecting that this used to be a former cow byre. Downstairs, the hallway leads to a contemporary kitchen/dining area with all you need to enjoy dining together and lingering over memorable meals. A door from this area leads out to the garden. The lounge is a wonderful social space with comfortable leather seating to unwind after a day of exploration. A TV and electric fire create a cosy ambience for whiling away the evenings together. Upstairs is a bathroom and two double bedrooms - one with a TV and an en-suite walk-in shower. The large, enclosed garden with outside seating is ideal for eating together or planning the day while sipping your morning brew.

The beautiful Yorkshire coastline is less than 10 miles away. Saltburn-by-the-Sea (16 miles) and Whitby (10 miles) are two must-see towns and access points for walkers to join the Cleveland Way. Discover Saltburn and spend a traditional day on the beach, ride the cliff tramway, and enjoy fish and chips on the pier. For a lovely walk in the countryside, head to the Mallyan Spout Waterfall (9 miles) and enjoy the three-mile circular walk from the village. This part of Goathland has been a popular holiday destination since Victorian times.

The cottage is detached. Right next to the moor with a very nice and big backjard. I was surpriced that this was not very clear from the pictures since it is a big big unique selling point. We were very happy here and I wish we could have stayed longer.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week in the cottage. It was spacious, comfortable and very well appointed. Situated in a little hamlet, nestled in the dip of the moors it provided a perfect venue to see lots of wildlife. We watched a barn owl flying and catching prey on 5 of the evenings, saw a stoat, bat and rabbits. A short walk took you to the top of Read morethe dip where we saw lapwings with a chick, heard curlews and lots of other birds. you could see Fylingdales and across the moors. The nearby village of Lealhom was worth a visit with free parking, good beer at the Board Inn, a well stocked village shop and 2 cafes. The cottage was convenient for visiting Whitby, Sandsend, Saltburn by the Sea and along the coast. A highly recommended cottage! Hide
