Home from home. All of us felt naturally relaxed and enjoyed our stay very much. It was a surprise 60th birthday treat for my wife and she loved it! Thankyou Egrets Landing for making it special for her.
Wonderful long weekend in Whitby! cottage is well equipped and has plenty of space. Evan (2) very much enjoyed sleeping in 'the cellar'! A lovely place to celebrate my birthday with family
Lovely holiday, thank you.
Fantastic cottage!! and lovely 2 days
Clean and well equipped. Great location for every age group. We had the best weather. fantastic views. Easy access to abbey etc.
Very lovely and extremely spacious cottage. Good central location for the bags to walk into town. We went to Pickering on the train and drove over to Sandsend and Staithes. Thank you for letting us stay
This place has everything you need, is warm, cosy, quiet and meets the needs of a family from 75 down to 51. We spent much time frequenting Whitby and discovered a lovely cafe that serves ice creams ( it has a blue frontage on the way to the pier! ) The bookshop near the White Horse and Griffin is great as is the Original Whitby goast walk - 8pm by the old town hall. The chap is very entertaining and it gave the children tons of story ideas. Do visit Robin Hoods Bay and the NYMR and although they do charge extra for the 1st class seats! Brave the weather and explore
Fabulous cottage with great character, lots of space with everything you need to feel at home
Whitby is a popular choice for visitors all year round. It is well known for its long sandy beach and delicious seafood. The river Esk flows through the town to the sea and cottages are perched on the hills on each side, with cobbled streets and historic yards providing a maze of places to explore. The town has a fantastic mix of modern shops and services, traditional stores and boutique shops. Whitby jet continues to be made into beautiful jewellery and sold in a number of shops. There are plenty of excellent restaurants which serve local fish and seafood, as well as a wonderful choice of cafes and tearooms.
The ruins of Whitby Abbey standdominantly on the clifftop and can be reached by climbing the 199 steps from the old town. The Abbey is said to have been the inspiration for Bram Stoker's novel Count Dracula, and its gothic splendour is the perfect place from which to take in some truly stunning views over the town, harbour and coastline. Whitby harbour is steeped in history and visitors can see where British explorer Captain James Cook first worked as an apprentice before setting sail and discovering Australia. A statue of this great explorer stands proudly above the town, along with some huge whalebones, a sign of the town's maritime history. The harbour is a buzz of activity and you can enjoy early mornings watching the fishing boats come ashore before getting first choice of their catch of the day.
There's always something happening throughout the town, with festivals and fairs are held throughout the year. These include Whitby Folk Week and the Whitby Regatta, and there are two popular Goth festivals each year.
