Additional relevant information

Access to the property is restricted, it is possible to drive down Sandgate to unload at the end of the entrance to the yard but not recommended between 9am-6pm as the street is very narrow and pedestrianised. Access on foot only down Nicholsons Yard, up the curved stone steps, along the wooden gantry then up the flying wooden steps. Inside the property is on 2 floors with both bedrooms on the first floor, each with an en-suite bathroom with walk-in shower, WC and basin. There are 14 steep, spiral steps up to the open plan lounge/kitchen. Floors are uneven in places.

Upon entering the cottage, you will come into a light and airy hallway leading to both bedrooms which are stylish and comfortable. This spacious cottage is set over two floors with a beautiful open plan kitchen - living room, complete with beams made from ancient ships timbers. Enjoy the fabulous view over the roof-tops of the old town and the harbour while preparing your favourite meals or hearty breakfast ready for a busy day ahead of exploring. This room also offers a large Smart TV great for catching up on Netflix on the 2 large sofas, or kick back and enjoy one of the selection of board games provided. This well-equipped apartment is perfect for that special occasion and is centrally located to numerous restaurants, tearooms, shops and pubs and all of Whitby’s local attractions whilst being only a stride away from the 199 steps and the Whitby Abbey, a beautiful place to walk on a summers evening to watch the sun go down. The cottage benefits from a parking permit for the Abbey Headland car park (10-15 minute uphill walk) which can be used all year round on a first come first served basis as well as Church Street (1 minute level walk) and Marina Back (5/10 minute level walk) car parks November - March

What a wonderful apartment! Very tastefully decorated, lovely and clean. Great location right in the centre of town. Probably the best showers we have experienced in Whitby. Large, easy to get in and out and simple to operate. The best thing though was how incredibly thoughtful everything was. It really feels as if the owners have lived there. Area Information

Whitby
Whitby is a popular choice for visitors all year round. It is well known for its long sandy beach and delicious seafood. The river Esk flows through the town to the sea and cottages are perched on the hills on each side, with cobbled streets and historic yards providing a maze of places to explore. The town has a fantastic mix of modern shops and services, traditional stores and boutique shops. Whitby jet continues to be made into beautiful jewellery and sold in a number of shops.  There are plenty of excellent restaurants which serve local fish and seafood, as well as a wonderful choice of cafes and tearooms.

The ruins of Whitby Abbey stand dominantly on the clifftop and can be reached by climbing the 199 steps from the old town. The Abbey is said to have been the inspiration for Bram Stoker's novel Count Dracula, and its gothic splendour is the perfect place from which to take in some truly stunning views over the town, harbour and coastline. Whitby harbour is steeped in history and visitors can see where British explorer Captain James Cook first worked as an apprentice before setting sail and discovering Australia. A statue of this great explorer stands proudly above the town, along with some huge whalebones, a sign of the town's maritime history. The harbour is a buzz of activity and you can enjoy early mornings watching the fishing boats come ashore before getting first choice of their catch of the day.

There's always something happening throughout the town, with festivals and fairs are held throughout the year. These include Whitby Folk Week and the Whitby Regatta, and there are two popular Goth festivals each year.
