Description

Aysgarth Nook is a distinctly avant-garde, newly renovated property, dripping with elegant designer furniture and state of the art fittings at every turn. This traditional Wensleydale cottage has been transformed into an uber luxurious modernist bolt hole without losing one ounce of it’s 300-year-old personality.

Oozing with charm, the stunning cottage boasts many coveted features such as the original exposed beams in the lounge, a beautiful log burning stove, magnificent views over open fells and deep window seats from which to enjoy those views. These traditional elements are juxtaposed perfectly with the sleek modern Kesseler kitchen, industrial exposed staircase, Nordic style ‘floating’ bedroom furniture from Hulsta (a nod to the old Norse history of the area) to create the ‘Scandi-Yorkshire’ theme that runs throughout the property. Innovative lighting and heating system installations are prevalent – the images of Aysgarth Falls above the beds, taken by local photographer David Tarn, are actually Infrared heating panels. As well as being super energy efficient, they are actually a therapeutic health-conscious alternative to traditional electric heating and great for allergy sufferers. The whole ground floor is kitted out with WIFI enabled underfloor heating which can be controlled by your smart phone, a blessing for walkers coming in from the bracing outdoors! And of course, the soothing hot tub in the private garden, with those jaw dropping views over Wensleydale is just the icing on the cake.

The décor throughout the cottage can only be described as ‘Future-Rustic’. A perfect melange of traditional fabrics and muted colours inspired by the surrounding countryside, but with ultra-slick, modern styling. The vegan friendly artificial leather accents on the bespoke knotted oak beds blend perfectly with the tartans, wools, stones and timbers throughout the cottage for a holistic sense of fluidity. Settle in for the night on the deep, oversized Design Quarter corner sofa, with a roaring log fire and Netflix on the LED TV, or ambient music on the Bose sound system.

The attention to detail must be seen to be believed.  All in all, a wonderful top-notch property featuring five beautifully appointed and stylish bedrooms, the perfect haven for a couples retreat or a family gathering to celebrate a special occasion….

Aysgarth Nook is situated in the Picture-Postcard Wensleydale village of Aysgarth, cosied up beside the fabulous Hamilton’s Tearooms (think home baked goodies and Yorkshire humour from the owners) and just a 2-minute walk away from the George and Dragon Pub, serving hearty home cooked meals and fine ales, this delightful holiday let really is blessed with its ideal location.

The infamous Aysgarth Falls, one of the seven natural wonders of the North, and where Kevin Costner once frolicked with Maid Marion on the film set for ‘Robin Hood Prince of Thieves’ are just a short walk away. The falls attract visitors all year round, indeed they truly demonstrate their magnificence during the wetter months. Artists, photographers and writers flock here to capture the imagery and the drama in their own senses. Ruskin, Turner and Wordsworth were three such visitors, and all enthused about the falls’ outstanding beauty.

Aysgarth itself sits within the boundaries of the awe-inspiring Yorkshire Dales National Park and is close to the pretty market towns of Leyburn and Hawes with their plethora of quirky, independent shops, restaurants, cafes and traditional pubs. The imposing Castle Bolton is a 4-mile hike or a short drive away. The infamous castle is steeped in history due to its Mary Queen of scots provenance, a must for a visit where tourists can watch a birds of prey display, partake in a little archery, refuel in the welcoming café or languish in the decadent gardens on warm, sunny days. Outdoor adventurists are spoilt for choice as there are many stunning walks and cycleways for those of an energetic nature, including the start of the “Three Peaks” walk which is within driving distance. Visit the Wensleydale creamery for a taster of every variety of local Wensleydale cheese imaginable (Wallace and Gromit would approve!!!) Or take a trip to the Forbidden Corner at Middleham, a wonderful day out that will delight all ages!

Reviews

A beautifully decorated cottage in a stunning location.

Alison D,

Lovely stay at Aysgarth Nook. Plenty of beautiful walks and things to do and see. House is very well equipped and the hot tub is a treat.

The S,

I love a modern home and the level of furnishings. Great mattress, good shower. Clearly a lot of thought and care has gone in to it, right down to the small details.

Past Customer,

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The house is fantastically equipped with everything you need and more and it made for a perfect getaway from city life. Can't wait to come back again soon.

Previous Customer,

We stayed at Aysgarth Nook at the beginning of February and arrived on a snowy evening to find the cottage delightfully cosy and welcoming. The photographs on the website certainly don't do it justice, as every detail has been carefully considered from high-tech heating and entertainment, to the latest, top spec kitchen appliances and, my favourite bit, the professional quality pans and kitchen knives. Each room has thoughtful finishing touches, such as hand-finished cushions and unusual feature lighting. Underfloor heating and ceramic floor tiles throughout the ground floor made it very dog-friendly and easy to keep clean, whilst still being warm and cosy. The thought that has gone into developing this cottage into a luxurious holiday home, whilst still retaining its quirky character, is second-to-none and pretty much everything you could wish for has been provided. Aysgarth is a great base for travelling to other towns and villages in North Yorkshire, as well as having fantastic scenery and lovely walks right there on the doorstep. A visit (or three) to Hamilton's Tea Rooms, adjacent to the cottage, is a must as the proprietor is very entertaining. Slightly further afield, The Saddle Room at Forbidden Corner and Humble Pie, at Askrigg are both highly recommended, with good reason! Can't wait for a return visit ❤

Heidi D,

Just want to give some fantastic feedback on our recent stay at Aysgarth Nook; recently fully refurbished to a really high spec by our friends & owners Sarah & Sean McDermott. When we arrived as a group into Aysgarth having travelled along the winding country roads amid rolling snow capped hills it felt like the ‘George Micheal - Last Christmas’ video. It was so welcoming; Sean had lit the wonderful log burner an the whole place was like an oven. We all had our own En-Suite rooms with all the latest mid-cons including pictures & mirrors that were radiators! Wonderful kitchen space, central for the afternoon ‘activities’ and dining and afterwards into the evening spending time in the huge comfort lounge with a few drinks whilst our wonderful DJ Alexa played anything the we shouted at her. To top it off a dip in the 40degree hot tub overlooking the Wensleydale skyline did it for us. Highly recommend the Nook & Aysgarth itself; not been since u was young; great weekend. Thanks so much Sarah & Sean xx

Ian V,

What a fabulous time we had in this most tastefully renovated 5 bed period property. No expense had been spared and it was certainly money well spent. In beautiful countryside, lovely pub over the road what more could one want? The property lacked for nothing including a jacuzzi which was very popular even in the freezing cold winter. Perhaps the bubbly helped?! We ll certainly be going back provided it’s not booked up!

Carl M,

Myself and my family stayed recently at Aysgarth Nook. ( As well as our doggie!) As a seasoned traveller it takes a lot for me to be truly awed by where I stay. Upon arrival I was truly blown away by the cottage. It is a luxurious, high end property where a great deal of thought has been put into making your stay as comfortable as possible. We stayed just after New Year and it was lovely to have the log fire burning and then be able to sit in the hot tub with a glass of wine and watch the stars. The beds are very comfortable and I loved the bath inside the bedroom on the top floor. The kitchen is a true showstopper and it was lovely to be able to sit comfortably all around the large table at the end of the day. There is lots to see and do in the local area, I highly recommend this property to anyone wanting a very memorable stay in Aysgarth! I will definitely be booking again!

Fiona K,

We had a wonderful stay at Aysgarth Nook. The cottage is in a beautiful, serene location and has been finished to a very high standard. Everything from the bed linen and furniture to the modern kitchen equipment is of a high quality. The spacious hot tub was a welcome addition to our stay and we will definitely return in the future.

Emma J,

Had an amazing winter weekend with friends in this lovely property. The hot tub outside is a huge bonus, but inside is a welcoming and cosy retreat with plenty of room for large groups. It is a luxurious home from home property and can't wait to stay again !

Previous Customer

Area Information

Aysgarth

Aysgarth village is a sleepy little roadside settlement in Wensleydale, within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It's worth stopping here for its popular pub which serves a hearty lunch and dinner and also the popular tea rooms along with the Aysgarth Rockery which is a remarkable Edwardian garden and well worth a visit.  This was saved from destruction by the National Park Authority who designated as a rather unusual Listed Building in 1988.  The famous Aysgarth Falls is just over a mile away, it is a beauty spot that has been on the tourist trail for over three hundred years. The river Ure hurls itself over three massive rocky steps, the Upper, Middle and Lower Falls. Alongside them is Freeholders’ Wood which is an ancient coppiced woodland. This local nature reserve has easy trails laid out for visitors. A few years ago, dormice were introduced into the wood and these delightful little creatures are now thriving here.  There are may walks from Aysgarth such as through the woods to Carperby, West Burton and Castle Bolton or why not take a riverside walk to Askrigg and Bainbridge.  The popular market towns of Hawes and Leyburn each with their markets, quirky shops, tearooms and Dales’ pubs are a short drive away.
