The kerb appeal is off the scale at this stunning stone-built property – south-facing and Grade II-listed, it enjoys an unrivalled position within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Drive up to the front door, deposit coats and boots in the porch and head inside for your second visual feast. We’re referring to the lounge, which is perfect for a big group gathering with a striking beamed ceiling, leather sofas, side tables and a writing desk. A large wood burner will keep toes and paws warm even in the depths of winter and there’s a choice of high-tech entertainment when you want to chill out. The kitchen is the heart of every country home, and the one here will likely be the setting for many fun times. There’s an oil-fired Rayburn to inspire those on cooking duty and when it’s time to sit down, the dining suite has elbow space for all and rests before a large window overlooking the garden and dale beyond. A cloakroom offers convenience while you’re all downstairs and on the first floor, there’s a pretty family bathroom with both a bath and a separate shower. Choose from three bedrooms on this floor, all with beamed ceilings. One has a king-size bed, its own TV and en-suite shower room, the second has a double bed and the third has twin beds. The interiors may be beautiful, but you’ll be drawn outside often by those Dales views – your garden is really more like a large grass paddock, all half-acre of it enclosed by stone walls, ranch-style fencing and a five-bar wooden gate. Fire up the BBQ, sit in the fresh air … and breathe!

Your holiday home is half a mile from the hamlet of Sedbusk and around a mile north of Hawes, England’s highest market town in England. There are excellent walks and cycle rides to enjoy from the doorstep – secure bike storage is provided – and the owner also allows guests to fish on his land.

Original Cottages kept us up to date with all information regarding our holiday. The web site and instructions were easy to understand. We have stayed at Shepherds Cottage three times before - the cottage itself is delightful and the views from the large kitchen/diner window are spectacular.
