Description

The Temple Folly is a unique and quirky two-storied building which is octagonal in plan and was used as a set location when they were filming Robin Hood Prince of Thieves. The building dates back to 1792 and was used by the ladies of the local gentry to watch the progress of hunts and to take in the panoramic views of the surrounding area and a view of Aysgarth Falls from the balcony. The property enjoys uninterrupted views across Wensleydale to Bolton Castle which is floodlit at night.  Outside the surrounding woods are the remains of an informal pleasure garden with a mixture of shrubs and specimen trees, part of this garden has been uncovered to restore the original views and recreate the eighteenth century feel.  This is an ideal bolt hole for a romantic break surrounded by open countryside and a great location to explore the beauty of the Yorkshire Dales although situated in close proximity to the main road, a high stone wall and trees shield guests from any intrusion.  The Folly is less than a mile from Berry's farm shop and cafe who offer farm tours, they are open seven days a week and serve breakfast, lunch and early supper, the shop also supplies everything for your day to day needs.  You can also pre-order food hampers for the Folly.

The property is very compact, comprising two octagonal rooms connected by a spiral stone staircase and outside balcony. This quirky accommodation benefits from an open plan living area on the ground floor with a window seat to enjoy either a glass of wine or to curl up with a good book.  It is full of character and charm has domed ceilings and a woodburning stove ideal to cosy up to after a day exploring the local area. There hot tub outside the property which are available for guests to use. With a fire pit outside what a lovely place to watch the sun setting over the Yorkshire Dales on an evening. There is walking straight from the property and also fishing is available with day permits available from the owner.
